Sylvia Ji’s artwork explores the dark side of the beautiful and the sublime. Her imagery is a visual elixir of life and death, combining sacred symbolism with mystical glamour and opulence. Ji embellishes her paintings with baroque detailing such as luxurious tapestries, ornamental feathers and gold leafing. She is at once contemplative, spiritual, enigmatic and yet whimsically funny.
Sylvia Ji was born and raised in San Francisco, California, where she received her BFA at the Academy of Art University. Upon graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she currently resides. Ji shows her work in solo exhibitions each year from London to Los Angeles and Melbourne to San Francisco, as well as participating in group art shows around the world.
