Born and raised in Toba, Japan, Yoskay Yamamoto moved to the United States at the age of 15. A self-trained illustrator, Yamamoto has worked to create a personal style that combine his traditional Asian heritage and current urban cultural surroundings. He enjoys working with his hands as a painter and sculptor.
Yamamoto nostalgically blends iconic characters from western pop culture with traditional and mythical Japanese elements. His work often explores the cycle of growth, blossoming and decay, as well as the balance and conflict between connection and disconnection, joy and melancholy.
